Cricket Club News, May

I was hoping to write this report regarding the 2005 season with some news of the opening cup game against Needham Market. Unfortunately, because Pettistree could not get a full team together, the match had to be conceded. After a recent meeting of players it was decided to withdraw from the Medite league but still to play in the Woodbridge mid-week league and cup games. We will also try and arrange more friendly fixtures, (to include the Sri Lankans later in the season), when hopefully we may have some more players available, i.e. those back home from University.

Despite losing several key players to larger clubs there is still a nucleus of cricketers who would very much welcome any new faces for friendly games.

Barnie Smith would be very pleased to introduce any new players, and can be contacted on 07884 328148

Awards were presented for the 2004 season to the following players at the Annual Dinner in February, held at The Greyhound:

Batsman of the year David Coates
Bowler of the year Paul Ray
Best batting performance
(New highest run partnership ... last wicket 77 runs v. Trimley)
Alistair Brooks 39 not out
Best bowling performance
(5 overs 7 wickets for 7 runs v. Ringsfield)
Ivan Gotts
Catch of the season Eddie Johnson

With the stepping down of Barnie Smith as Captain (due to business commitments overseas) we are pleased to welcome back an old face as the new skipper for 2005, Mr Ivan Gotts.

Home matches will commence from 10th July 2005.
